Khon Kaen is in the center of northeastern Thailand, approximately 450 kilometres northeast of Bangkok by road with a population of 115,000 people. Khon Kaen borders on the north with Udon Thani Province. The west is adjacent to Chaiyaphum. The south is adjacent to Nakorn Ratchasima and Buri Ram. The east is adjacent to Kalasin and Maha Sarakham.

Khon Kaen Airport (KKC) is located 2.5 km northwest of the town center. Thai Air Asia, Thai Lion Air, Thai Vietjet Air, Thai Smile and Nok Air operate daily direct flights from Bangkok Don Mueang Airport and Suvarnabhumi Airport, Chiang Mai and Phuket. Numerous transport options are available from the airport to anywhere in the province.
